The Cosmeston GC Grebes definitely have 3 chicks. Have now ventured away from the nest and were in the middle of W lake this morning riding on the adult's back. Let's hope they survive.

5 Tufted Ducks on E lake this morning - they're building up! Mute Swan till has 2 well grown cygnets. Lots of Gatekeepers on the wing. GC Grebe 2x chicks still OK and if you look carefully at the photo, there could poss be another or even 2 [underneath mum] spending most of their time on the nest or mum's back, but did venture into the water today. I was told the other day that there seemed to be another 2 eggs not yet hatched. The shrew I found on the central path yesterday. Click the pix for bigger ones.

Hope they survive  the fist clutch of eggs was taken by a mink. The ovipositing dragonfly is a female Emperor. There were 2 Tufted Ducks - a sign of autumn. Still quite a few Swift & Sand Martin about and a few House Martin in the last couple of days. Also Chiffchaff and Blackcap singing and a brief Whitethroat in the snipe paddock. The GC Grebe still seems to be sitting [17th Jul]. Couple of shots below of one of the ad Herons.

Monday, 11 July 2016

9-10 a.m. 50 or so Swift over W lake plus 10 Sand Martin and a few House Martin. Also this, the point of which is beyond me - so bloody mindless.

Tuesday, 5 July 2016

pretty quiet bird-wise. A couple of Blackcaps singing, 20 or so Sand Martin, 2 House Martin and 6 Swift over W lake, ad Heron 'sunning' in a tree by W lake, 2 Song Thrush singing. GCG still incubating - shouldn't be long now until hatching. Ringlets, 2 Commas and Meadow Browns were on the wing, 1 Emperor dragonfly over the dragonfly pond. Bee Orchids, Pyramidals and Common Spotted orchids still in flower.
