A pair of Canada Geese with 5 small goslings on W lake. AS far as I can see, a first for the site. The Mute Swan pair still have 2 of the original 8 cygnets. Also 2 Lesser Whitethroat singing - 1 in hedge in the southern fields and another in the hedge along the west paddock, behind the dragonfly pond. Also Brimstone, Peacock, Comma and Speckled Wood butterflies.

Also pr of Canada Geese W lake, with 5 goslings [per Jim Criddle], although we could't find them [prob hiding in the reeds]. Finally 2nd cal yr Lesser Black-back 9ZF in red on whitish ring on L leg.

Cosmeston this morning

Sadly the Mute Swan pair are now down to 2 cygnets, having started off with 8! A Lesser Whitethroat was singing about halfway along the 'high' path that runs along the S side of W lake [after crossing the wooden bridge over Sully Brook. A few Swallow and a couple of House Martins were over E lake. In the cold wind it felt like a winter morning, and definitely not May 23rd!

pretty quiet this morning. ! Coot seen with young. It appears, very sadly, that the Mute Swan pair are now down to just 3 Cygnets, having started out with 8! I can't believe that Pike will have predated all five others. Several Orange Tip on the wing.

Mute Swan with 8 v small cygnets on W lake. Whitethroat carrying nest material by the 'dog field'. Also a pair of Mute Swans doing a wonderful synchronised swimming display by the bridge. Sitting next to each other and doing exactly in time pirouettes. Wish I had had the video camera.
