Cosmeston

The Mute Swan pair seem to have lost 2 of their 7 cygnets. Good to see the GCG pair now have another clutch after the first was taken by a terrapin. Also present this morning c.20 Sand Martins and 10 Swift over W lake, and Common Whitethroat still singing by W paddock hedge. An ad and a juv Heron were by W lake shore. O/W pretty quiet.

Cosmeston

This morning: GC Grebes still re-building. Ad Heron on W lake posts. I'm pretty sure a pair bred in the W lake reed bed - albeit rather unusual. Comm Whitethroat singing in W paddock hedgerow. Ad Magpie feeding young [& Crow feeding young t'other day].

Cosmeston

Found out this morning that on Sat, a mink was seen to take the eggs from the GC Grebe nest. The Grebe pair were adding more material to the next this morning so hopefully they'll try again. A juv Heron was sitting on top of one of the owl boxes by W lake.

Cosmeston

Back from a 3 week break. A pair of Crows were feeding young in Cogan Wood yesterday and a Gt Crested Grebe is sitting on a floating nest in the Bistort on W lake.
Sad, and extremely annoying news is that some low-lifes have set fire to the refugium that the rangers had created near the dragonfly pond, for Slow Worms.
