Cosmeston

Nice view of a fem Sparrowhawk diving into a tree containing around 20 Fieldfare and a few Redwing. No success but the explosion of the thrushes out of the tree was entertaining.
Also 2 ringed LBB Gulls - 1st yr bird yellow Darvic right leg black text "T+Y", and adult LBBG white Darvic left leg black text OLF - the latter is a regular.

Cosmeston

Good nos. of Redwing and Fieldfare [the latter my first of the year], flying around this morning - poss 110 & 50 respectively but too spread out to be accurate. Also Kingfisher flew across E lake from the sluice towards the boardwalk. Lol Middleton saw what was probably a Jack Snipe in flight.

Cosmeston 4 p.m. onwards

A Little Egret in a tree by W lake 'island' and a Grey Heron, obviously intending to roost. Around 5000 Starlings gathered and swirled around for several minutes, but not a proper murmuration, and decided against dropping in and eventually headed off NE [to Cardiff Bay?]. Mad panic at one point as a male Sparrowhawk swooped into the flock [unsuccessfully].

Cosmeston

The Canada Geese are staging a take over!! 130 on W lake this morning, together with a huge fat almost completely white domestic hybrid. About 20 Tufties. A pair of GC Grebes in winter plumage were doing a display dance. A few Redwing at the back of W lake. 4 Green Woodpeckers seen, and a Mistle Thrush. Some filming going on by the grassy 'beach' of W lake.
