Lavernock Point

Pretty quiet walk along the cliff top. Farmer preparing fields for sowing, which produced a few gulls, with 16 Common Gulls the highlight. A single Redwing in the hedgerow, 10 Pied Wagtails in second field and 5 Buzzards circling the top field. Blackbird, Wren, Robin & Dunnock all singing. No spring migrants noted at Lavernock or Cosmeston.

Cosmeston

GBC monthly walk, 7 participants. Highlights, 2 Snipe flew up from the 'snipe paddock', circled and came down again. Mixed flock of Redwing & Fieldfare in trees near west paddock, around 30 birds in all. The Scaup type bird was on W lake, the small black bill nail suggesting that this may have been a bona Lesser Scaup [was reported y'day], but still s'thing about it didn't look right to me - size for one. Need to check the video I took some time ago of the bird that was defo considered  2 b hybrid. Also Goldcrest and 2 Chiffchaff near the Med Village. Couple of Reed Bunts seen, pair of Bullfinch and 2 Jay.

Lavernock coast path

The farmer is currently ploughing in the stubble in the big coastal field. Spectacular sight & sound of 2-3000 gulls feeding behind, then taking flight and resting on the sea. Searched & searched for big white wings but no luck. However the near full hooded adult Med Gull that was at Cossie on Sunday was sitting on the sea, as were at least 5 Common Gulls. Only passerines of note were a few Blackbird and Robin, and 3 Goldcrest.

Cosmeston

no sign of the 2 Med Gulls from y'day, despite much less disturbance being a Monday. 2 Common Gulls present.

Cosmeston

Almost full sumer plumage ad Med Gull present this morning. First on E lake [as txtd to me by Wayne Strong, ta Wayne]. Was sitting on ice on part frozen E lake when I got there late a.m., no doubt pushed off E lake by scuba diver and canoeists. 5 GCG present [a pair were displaying 2 days ago].
PS just had another txt from Wayne - there appear to be 2 different birds.
Also around a dozen Chaffinch feeding by the bird table, and 3-4 Reed Bunts around.
